Bay Area Backcountry
Bay Area Backcountry web-page is "an ever changing collection of apocryphal, misleading, and just plain wrong information about some nice places to camp and hike around the San Francisco Bay Area."
Bay Area Hiker
Hikes ranging geographically from around Robert Louis Stevenson State Park to the north, to Mount Diablo in the East Bay, Henry Cowell State Park to the southwest, and Henry Coe State Park to the southeast.

CyberHikes is dedicated to providing information about California Hiking trails. Focuses on Bay Area and central California hikes.
California Trail Connection
The California Trail Connection provides for news and in-depth information about California's Trails and Greenways. Includes information on the Pacific Crest Trail and other long-distance trails within California.
Coastwalk
An organization of coastal activists who are dedicated to exploring and making accessible remote sections of the California coastline. Started in 1983, a 30-member group hike opened up 55 miles of unbroken coastal trail in Sonoma County; today, the California Coastal Trail is 1,156 miles long and Coastwalk has local chapters in all 15 coastal counties.
GORP hiking guide
Pacific Crest Trail Assoc.
The PCTA's mission is "to protect, preserve and promote the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail" that spans 2,650 miles from Mexico to Canada. The Pacific Crest Trail, dedicated as a scenic trail in 1993, is one of eight National Scenic Trails.

U.S. National Resources

American Hiking Society
Organization devoted to keeping a tab on legislation affecting trails/hiking at the federal and regional level. AHS site is chock full of information, including legislative news, alliance of hiking organizations database, national trails directory and state-by-state guide to hikes, trail events and volunteer opportunities.
Appalachian Trail Conference
A confederation of over 30 clubs, from Maine to Georgia. Web site offers very informative state-by-state guide on hiking the Appalachian Trail, conservation/stewardship programs and volunteer activities.
Dirty Sole Society
"Barefoot" club, support group/forum for people who choose to go barefoot as a lifestyle choice.
GORP hiking guide
North Country Trail Assoc.
The North Country Trail Association is a nationwide nonprofit organization that works in partnership with the National Park Service to build, maintain, and promote the North Country National Scenic Trail -- a footpath that one day will stretch more than 4,000 miles to link communities and wilderness areas across seven northern states.
