Haiku

     by Patricia Dove Miller

Topanga

Soft salmon egg sky
owl hooting low and silky
echoes my father's voice.

Two young deer shimmer
behind a summer screen of
dry yellow grass

Clearlake

Red wing blackbirds
flutter among green tules
a shimmering quilt

Great blue heron
startled, swoops over burnt oak
recapturing his land.

Patricia Dove Miller taught at the former San Diego Writing Center and now leads creative writing classes in Del Mar and Idyllwild. She currently studies poetry with The Writers Studio in New York City. Her work has appeared in Magee Park Poets Anthology, Tidepools, Fallbrook Haiku Society Anthology, Into the Deep End, and ZMC Community Journal.
