Trail Building Projects

Trail Repair at Pescadero State Beach

For 2004, we will be starting a new project helping to maintain existing trail from coastal Highway 1 through marsh and fresh water drainage area approximately 3/4 mile in length. The area is habitat for an extensive variety of waterfowl, bird and fish species. Use of the Audubon Trail is moderately heavy because of its location adjacent to Pescadero State Beach and educational use by school and outdoor interest groups. Our work will include extensive clearing of fast-growing brush away from trail, leveling and adjusting drainage and building steps down to a wildlife viewing area.

Coordinator for this project is David Augustine (Calfornia Departments of Parks and Recreation).

For more information about Pescadero State Beach, see the Pescadero State Beach info page.

Directions: From all mid-peninsula and South Bay locations: Using either I-280 or Highway 101, exit Woodside Road (Highway 84) and head west, through Woodside, up and over Skyline Blvd (Highway 35) down through La Honda to the intersection with coastal Highway 1. Turn left onto Highway 1 passing San Gregorio State Beach. About 4-5 miles south on Highway 1, just past Pescadero State Beach and the bridge over Pescadero Creek, look for parking on the right. If you come to Pescadero Road on the left, you have gone past the parking lot.

Saturday, January 10, 2004 - Audubon Trail

Activities: Removal of fast-growing brush, drainage management and step constructuon on the Audubon Trail. Meet at 8:30 a.m. in the parking lot on south side of coastal Highway 1 bridge over Pescadero Creek which is almost opposite of the junction of Pescadero Road and Highway 1. Parking lot is on the ocean side of the highway at the south end of the Highway 1 bridge crossing Pescadero Creek. We will meet in the parking lot. If you arrive late, access to the trail is from the north end of the bridge on the ocean side of Highway 1. Go west down the trail to the sand and then walk under the bridge along the north side of the creek. Trail access is about 100-200 feet east of the bridge out of the sand dunes. [COMPLETED]
