Pescadero Marsh

Pescadero State Beach has a mile-long shoreline with sandy coves, rocky cliffs, tide pools, fishing spots and picnic facilities.

Across the highway is Pescadero Marsh Natural Preserve, a popular spot for bird watchers and other naturalists. The Reserve is a refuge for blue heron, kites, deer, raccoons, foxes and skunks.

The Audubon Trail is an extremely popular trail circling the Marsh and is a favorite for bird-watchers and those wanting to fish in the nearby Pescadero Creek.

Location: Pescadero, California - Audubon Trail

Directions: Pescadero Beach is located at the junction of Pescadero Road and Coastal Highway 1 near the small town of Pescadero, CA. The Marsh is directly across U.S. 1 from the Beach.

From the Palo Alto area take Highway 84 (near Woodside) to the coast and turn left on U.S. 1. Travel south to Pescadero Road.

From San Jose, take Highway 17 to the coast and travel north to Pescadero Road.

Allow a minimum of one hour of travel to reach this location.

Additional Information: Bring lunch, two quarts of water and some energy snacks. Boots, long sleeve shirts and long pants are essential due to the prevalence of poison oak in the area where we will be working. The Trail Center will supply all tools and gloves.

Assemble at 8:30 am for safety talks and crew assignments. We will begin work at 9:00 am. Lunch will be on the trail and we will finish our day at 3:00 pm. Snacks and refreshments will be provided.

Weather on the coast can be quite variable and very different from inland. Layered clothing is useful and trailworkers should be prepared for cold, windy conditions with possible moisture in the form of fog or drizzle.

Saturday, September 18, 2010 - North Pond Trail Extension - Day 2

Activities: California State Parks is putting in a new bridge across a broken levee to allow a continuous loop through the Marsh.

Depending on progress (and permits) we will be engaged in either some new trail construction or repair of approaches to the new bridge.

This is a perfect time of year to be out on the coast. Warm weather and no crowds will make your day.
