Crew Leader Training

The San Mateo County Department of Parks with the assistance of Trail Center will be conducting a crew leader training workshop in February.

With the dramatic cut in budgets at the State, County and local levels, land management agencies are relying more than ever on volunteers to maintain and improve our vitally needed open space preserves and parks. A well-maintained trail system enables the community to enjoy a healthy life-style, to find a way to recenter and reduce stress, and to enjoy the out-of-doors on a very low budget.

These benefits will only happen if dedicated volunteers commit the time to be trained to lead the crews that will do the work of maintaining our trail system. The County, the Trail Center and other outdoor agencies are all in need of skilled crew leaders, and this workshop provides an opportunity to learn the technical and leadership skills required for crew work.

If you have enjoyed doing trail work with the Trail Center or with San Mateo County, please submit your name for this invitation-only event. The workshop will consist of one evening of classroom training and one day of field training led by SMC rangers and staff, and experienced Trail Center members.
